"Heroes" Turns 40

In 1977, the year David Bowie recorded Heroes, the second of his three Berlin albums, East German border guards shot and killed 18-year-old Dietmar Schwietzer as he tried to flee west across the wall. The song Heroes itself tells a story of two lovers who meet at the wall and try, hopelessly, to find a way to be together It was later revealed by David Bowie that the two lovers were Tony Visconti and his then East German girlfriend. Tony is the longtime producer and a close friend of David Bowie, who helped invited Brian Eno and King Crimson's leader/guitarist Robert Fripp to contribute on the recording of Heroes David Bowie's performance of Heroes on 6 June 1987 in (West) Berlin was considered a catalyst to the eventual fall of the Berlin Wall. And among the many tributes to David Bowie following his death, was from the German Foreign Ministry The album Heroes turns 40 today. The song Heroes has been covered by Peter Gabriel, Blondie, The Wallflowers, Oasis, King Crimson, Motorhead, Depeche Mode, and more #davidbowie #heroes
