OK Computer Turns 20

Radiohead's OK Computer Turns 20

While musical taste/preferences is always a subjective matter and varies from one ear to another, OK Computer's influence amongst artists is widely acknowledged; from Muse, Coldplay, brothers Jonathan (a self-proclaimed fan) & Christopher Nolan, to Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

TV shows Westworld and Black Mirror have also brought OK Computer back to the spotlight just less than a year from its 20th anniversary - what unites these shows isn't just anxiety about the future and technology but that they both have brought back the unofficial soundtrack to that feeling: OK Computer.

OK Computer is a retrospective view of the 21st century life made three years before it even started. And its lyrics "when I am king you will be first against the wall", "electioneering", "scrolling up and down I am born again", "bring down the government, they don't speak for us", "an empowered and informed member of society, pragmatism not idealism", "up above aliens hover making home movies for the folks back home" (drone?) are terrifyingly getting much more relevant today.

Though musically futuristic and lyrically prophetic, the sounds and musical arrangement of the album took inspiration from very classic and modern musicians (at that time); from Miles Davis, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd, to Krzysztof Penderecki, DJ Shadow, and Massive Attack - I would say that OK Computer is my model for business & career for its extreme combination of old and new sources in order to produce something new.
